So as the high school year comes to an end, that’s when the panicking begins. That is one of the times when you get to experience all the emotions at once: happiness, sadness, nervousness, excitement, etc.  You can totally expect a different life style, a new beginning, a new chapter, and a brand new life. And although many of us pretend that we are so glad to be out of high school, lets face it, with a new life comes bundle of responsibilities and surplus of stress.  Now I am not trying to scare all  to-be fishes. Although, the new life is a lot different, I guarantee you that the years in college will the most memorable and adventurous years of your life. Now with all that being said, let’s get to actual point of me writing this article- TIPS.

Below are some very VALUABLE tips based on my personal experiences that will surely help you transferring your journey from high school to college.

1) pick a college of YOUR choice.

This is probably one of the most important ones. You should go to your dream college not your parents or you aunts or anyone else  ;)

2) Go to all the orientations.

I know it sounds like a pain in the butt, but trust me it helps you the most. It introduces you to your new home and the   environment. It is a total get- to- know your college package which you will definitely not regret.

3) Honor the college with your presence and pay a visit.

When I was applying for colleges, I did not visit any- even the one I am in right now. I wish I had visited my college; there are so many things that you cannot tell just by staring at a website. Reality makes a big difference. It is very important that you get   familiar with the surroundings. For example, you can find a better and a cheaper place to live off campus with a better floorplan but you can only  know that if you visit the university.

4) Fill out your residence applications way early.

After you decide where you want to live, you better fill the application as soon as possible! You can’t even imagine how fast the spots fill up and you will be left regretting!

5) Try to go to the first orientation.

I know it sounds kind of lame to sign up for the first orientation but it is probably the best thing to do. You will be the first one to sign up for your classes and get your desired courses with your desired teachers and desired timings.  They too fill up very quickly.

6) Meet with your professors and be best friends with them.

Ok this one is pure fact and a personal experience. I was sitting in a class once waiting for my professor to come and start lecturing. That’s when I noticed a girl talking to her professor and  literally demanding him to bump her 88 to a 90. And astonishingly he agreed. His exacts words were: ” Don’t worry, next time you check your grade online it will be a 90.” I was so surprised and realized the importance of meeting your professors.

7) Aim for good grades.

Many of us get so obsessed with our new freedom that we get a little carried away and slack ALOT in school.  And I understand it completely because a new feeling of freedom is quite overwhelming. However, keep in mind that you cannot repeat your freshman year and it is one of the most important ones because it is your base year. So study a little and have fun as well. Balance your life.

8)  Take your time in deciding on your major.

Many of us don’t know what we want to do in life. And that is completely fine. You should take your time and explore your options, just do not make any hasty decisions. Being undeclared the first two years is a lot better than switching your major 50   gazillion times.

9) Increase your contact list and make friends in every class.

Two brains are better than one- always remember that. It always helps to know someone in each class so when you are absent or skip classes you know what is going on in the class (now that does not mean that I am advising you to skip classes… however once in a while is completely fine :] ).

10) Have fun and enjoy life!

Sit back and enjoy everything that comes your way. Live the life to the fullest; handle stress maturely and welcome the years with open arms.
